Guru - Swati Shah
Swati Shah is an accomplished Indian Classical Dancer, who started
learning Bharatanatyam at age 12, under the able guidance of Mrs.
Shalini Tahamnker for three years. She continued her practice under
the guidance of Mrs. Arthi Baxi and finally became a disciple of Mrs.
Mamta Desai. She performed her Arangetram (Solo Dance Debuts) on July
7, 1991 . She received her Masters in chemistry, from South Gujarat
University , Gujarat , India. After coming to the U.S.A she studied
Graphic Designing with Multimedia. Her main interests are Dancing,
Drama (Theater), Music and Painting. She received Gujarat State Natya
Academy Award for best female performer in 1989. She is also trained
in Indian Folk Dances. Three of her students have performed Arangetram
( debut performance of a Bharatanatyam).
Some of her best productions were the dance dramas "Chandanbala" and "Ilachikumar"
which have a solid base in Jain religion. She and her students have
worked together in producing these dance dramas. In May 1995 they
performed "Ilachikumar" in Kimbel Art Museum, Fort worth, for the
opening ceremony of "Jaina " Exhibitions.
Arangetram: Under Guru Swati Shah, three students performed an
arangetram - Graduation Solo Recital.
